Enrollment is now open for HUNAP's Nation Building I Course.
This course will be held from January 19-22, 2010, meeting daily from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Click here to view the class syllabus.
This is course is a flagship of the University's Interfaculty Initiative in Native Affairs -- the Harvard University Native American Program. The course provides a multi-disciplinary investigation of an inherently multi-disciplinary subject: The challenges of building strong Native communities for today and the future. Indeed, "nation building" is a universal challenge, and the course has proven popular with students with interests in leadership education, international institutions for development, community action and community development, cultural strengthening, sustainable political and economic systems, and related fields. In addition to class discussions and simulations of actual points of decision making by Native communities, Native leaders from various walks of life will present their experiences and insights to the class.
No prior knowledge of Native affairs is required or expected. Enrollment is not restricted and is open to all students from all schools in the University, graduate and undergraduate. We sign any and all enrollment and cross-enrollment forms. If your school gives you any trouble, we go to fight for you and have established the precedent for your enrollment. Moreover, we honor all late enrollment requests up to the first day of class. Just bring enrollment/cross-enrollment forms on the first day of class and we'll sign them then. Or you can bring forms by Prof. Kalt's office (see Prof. Kalt's assistant, Nicole Grenier, HKS Taubman Bldg, Room 459). The course is an intense, four-day "ride" and meets January 19-22, 2009; 10-4 in HKS Rubenstein Building, Room RG20 (Neustadt Classroom).
